Kerman to open cinema honoring Abbas Kiarostami

The Iranian city of Kerman is to open a cinema theater to pay tribute to Abbas Kiarostami.

The Iranian city of Kerman is to open a cinema theater in the Art and Experience cinematic group on birth anniversary of the late acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami.

Titled ‘Cherry Season’, reminding the name of one of his masterpieces ‘Taste of Cherry’, the program will be held at Kerman’s Pars Hotel on Wednesday, June 21, 2017.

The cinema theater is to be inaugurated by screening Seifollah Samadian’s ‘76 Minutes and 15 Seconds with Kiarostami’ which is a montage film about the late director.

A number of Iranian cineastes are invited to attend the opening, including Samadian, Shahram Mokri, Majid Barzegar, Homayoun Ershadi, Moein Karimoddini, and Alireza Tabesh.

Kiarostami was a multitalented artist and an exceptional man who joyfully embraced life. He was winner of the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Festival in 1997 for his film ‘Taste of Cherry’, passing away on July 4, 2016.

He is mostly known as a screenwriter, film editor, art director and producer as well as a poet, photographer, painter, illustrator and graphic designer.

The cinematic works by the internationally acclaimed filmmaker have been hailed by various festivals around the world.

Several prestigious festivals and film events have already honored the noted Iranian director and have paid homage to Kiarostami by presenting retrospectives of his work.
